Race to the Raft (Kickstarter – Deluxe Edition Pledge)
40m - 60m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 8+
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

For adults: skip the tutorial and practice level. For my second game I've tried campaign 3 with advanced rules and was still bored. (Way too easy)

? Game explanation: In the cooperative game Race to the Raft, you try to save the cats from the fire and escape to the raft as quickly as possible. It is played in scenarios from easy to difficult. You choose a scenario and place the parts as described. Then all players take 3 cards from the 4 piles. You can always choose which pile you take cards from, but never show them to other players. The back of the card tells you how much chance there is of certain combinations of terrain types on the card. The game is played in turns, but with no fixed order. Together, you choose which player performs an action. You are not allowed to say everything about the card you want to play. If you are allowed to perform a turn, you can choose between 2 actions. Either you place a card on the board or you discard a card and move a cat as far as you like (it must always follow the colour of the terrain type equal to the cat). If you place a card on the board, you must then also draw a fire tile from the bag and place it. After this, it is the next player's turn. If 4 cards have been played, then a fire tile is also placed. Once each player has played 3 cards and you haven't won or lost, then everyone takes another 3 cards and another round is played. Have all the cats arrived safely on the boat, then you win. But if the fire is faster than the cats, you lose. The game comes with many more scenarios and more challenging rules. Keep score in the booklet. ⭐ Our review: Race to the Raft immediately attracted us because of its cover. It has simple rules and because of the many scenarios and various boards, no two games are the same. Have you played all the scenarios? Then you can download more from @cityofgameshq's website. We are fans! We also have the expansion miniature pack, normally the game comes with wooden figures. This game ties in nicely with Isle of cats in terms of theme.
