Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Pret is a worker placer that doesn't quite live up to its billing as a heavy economic game. Sure, there's an economy here, but it is not at all difficult to fathom what's needed to make it work. The heart of the game is a large variety of contract, building and employee cards that all make your engine run more efficiently in one way or another. Some are clearly better than others, but I see that as a positive feature, forcing some tough decisions about prioritizing those worker placements. The cards offer various strategic options and therefore bring replayability. Pret also delivers a sense of too much to do in too little time; there are but two turns between each fashion show in which to put together your new collection and buy the necessary materials. I quite enjoyed my game of Pret, though it did seem a bit long-winded for what isn't a heavy economic game. However, game length could easily be reduced from twelve to nine turns. I welcome the fashion industry theme as a refreshing change from medieval Germany. I felt that the artwork (first edition) was rather bland and could have made much more of flamboyant subject matter. Production quality is good.

Tight game, with a few strategies to follow. The rules are easy to grasp, but the gameplay is demanding.

For those of us who know nothing about running a business, we can immerse ourselves in a game that makes us think we can. Pret-a-Porter is a wonderful game set in the cut-throat fashion industry where margins are small and trends, quality and Public Relations compete for our attention and desire for more prestige. Each decision in this game presents a difficult dilemma - do I choose actions that will benefit me now, or plan ahead for future fashion shows? Well, we must do both and this isn't easy. Choosing the right combination of contracts, buildings and employees will propel your game forward, choosing poorly can stagnate your income and slow the growth of your fashion business. Excellent game where the winner isn't known until the last dollar is counted!
