Peloponnes Card Game
45m - 45m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 10+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting

I like the card play and tableaubuilding in this game, but any sense of accomplishment is swept away by the randomness of the disasters. The art on the cards doesn't reflect the beautiful box cover art.

It captures the feel of Peloponnes, however it lasts shorter and feels more of a "travel edition" than a card game. Rules are almost the same. No innovations since the original. Liked it less than the original.

An okay and tight auction game that improves upon the board game. It's still a brutal auction system, but the adjacency requirements for land/province tiles have been eliminated, which vastly improves the game experience. The disasters are a constant threat and really drive up the tension in the game since you have meager resources and could lose a lot from most disasters, but this adds to the district/gripping/edge-of-your-seat feelings of the game. I'm not fond of auction games, and there's a decent amount of luck of the draw in this one, but I can see it being popular with players that like auctions and semi-meaty 1-hour games.
