This is a great example of the rules aren’t the game. I watched the video. I read the rules. The game is completely different feeling than either would lead me to believe. Much more crunchy than I expected. More AP and math than I expected. Great design. I just don’t know if it’s something I want in my collection long term, because I already have a ton of crunchy games and was looking for an easier game. This is “easy rules” but tough crunchy gameplay as I plot out several turns ahead and have to check and double check my money, double check everyone else’s district totals etc. I thought this would be in competition difficulty-wise with something like Key Flow, but it’s much more like Key Flower (both great games, but I have far too many crunchy games). Anyone who say’s “just read the rules, you’ll know if you’ll like the game” I have no idea how anyone does that, even before this, but especially not after playing this game. Even if I don’t keep it I’m giving it an 8 out of 10, but I did think it went on a bit long.

I like this but I have no idea why. The production values of the deluxe version go a long way. I'm not usually one for area majority games, but there is something about the game arc of this one that sets it apart. I like how you feel money is breezy early game, but the game keeps going on and your ability to make money dries up. It's weird...you don't necessarily see how your actions culminate to an end game until you get there and realize your machinations may not have been as valuable as they seemed at first glance. Something about it I find fascinating, but I can see others thinking it is too simple and boring for the massive table presence.

This one was fine? Not a lot of magic here at 2p, which is part of why I passed it on. Probably sings at higher player counts. I was hoping for something more like Heaven and Ale with the rondel (it's on me for not figuring out how it was different) and left a bit disappointed.
