While I appreciate the Old Ones and the Sanity mechanism in this game, the simplified logistical puzzle (compared to other entries in the series) takes away a lot of my enjoyment of the game. Also, I find that the Shoggoth's movement, while very cool in theory, often ends up adding a huge swing in difficulty based on where they spawn.

Really great new iteration of Cthulhu, the changes and nuances are all thematic and in fact I prefer this over vanilla Pandemic. I love the addition of the Sanity die, the various movement options, the Relics and how the Cultists and Shoggoths can move or summon to flip Old Ones cards faster. But at it's heart, you'll recognize the pure Pandemic gameplay.

Unlike prior Pandemics -- which were exercises in evaluating probabilities and pressing your luck -- this game is simply a luck-fest. Yes, it has nice/decent components, and yes it has thematic art and gameplay, but these simply can't offset the enormous swingy-ness of the player card draws and bosses. Bleh. I won't turn down a game if someone else suggests it, but I won't be the one suggesting to play it. And I LOVE Pandemic.
