Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Promises a lot but doesn't deliver. "Worker placement" without blocking or other interaction, tableau building but all the cards give you one bonus resource for doing some action, and there are lots of unique actions on display but under their flavor they all do the same thing. A track-pushing optimization game.

**contains level up loot Set up is long. I hate how the board is long. I hate that the AI board takes up so much space. There should be clear plastic trays containing the pieces that you stick on top of the board. I think the rulebook could be more clear. I wish there was a more extensive index. The icons aren't super clear. There are a lot of little rules and no reminder cards or anything on the board. The icons could be better. They aren't always consistent: icons with provision/coin/tax and a red X looks like when the AI need to spend, move something to the right. The resource track has a similar white arrow. So when the AI needs to spend, move the track. The same red X is on the purple and black cards. But no, this means, if the AI cannot discard, remove a tax coin. But this doesnt affect the resource track. Removing a purple/black card is beneficial - why wouldn't the AI be able to gain something on the resource track. And there's no reminder on the board to not move the resource track. The iconography could have been improved for the action spaces that may accept two workers. The slashes through the red flags is similar to the remove a tax icon on the AI board. But they mean different things. The coin cost for gaining townsfolk - it looks like I gain 3 coins. But no. There should be a minus sign to indicate cost. Why are there arrows on the monk and garrison on the AI board? Do I start from the right? No. The AI targets the left most available space. But the arrow comes from the RIGHT. The icons are better looking than in Ark Nova. There is some slight engine building. There is some theme to the game but I end up calling workers by their colors. I have a hard time remembering what the colors represent. The tokens are very small and slippery. I wish there were hidden reminders for the AI set up printed on the board. Like the order of the flags on the resource track could have been related to the set up. My favorite part of the game is the Inquisition. Solo set up: use king's order cards to populate pre-game workshops for the AI: easy(1) standard(3) hard(5) Shuffle kings order cards and deal to the board. Place a workshop on each King's Order card. Place AI's workers near each round card (king's order/favor): 3 + n, n=round number. Before each round reveal each kings card, place the workshop based on the order and give AI their workers. When drawing tavern card: draw 2. Choose one. AI gets suspicion cards based on the number of purple meeples on the left over card. Paladins lite: 4 rounds - 3 king orders + 2 king favors half tracks - using halves with vp's. Pro: David MIGHT like it. Solo mode. Con: LONG. I would rather play Scythia or maybe try out Ezra & Nehemiah. I don't like the iconography or the theme.

Update: Tried a 2 player game, definitely more enjoyable the second time around. Still found it difficult to put all the pieces together, constantly ran into roadblocks where I couldn't take the action I wanted due to insufficient resources/attributes. However really enjoyed the arc of the game and how it opens up as it progresses. Interested to get to know it more. ——- Played once solo. My brain hurts. Rating will probably improve with repeated plays, but learning it was hard and getting pummelled by the AI wasn't a particularly fun first game.
