Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

2 player card duelling game by John Clowdus (Mezo) about area control plus hand and coin management. Pros: + Artwork (but quality varies) + Components (cards, coins, tiles) + All cards are unique + Different types of cards/units: soldiers, beasts, oracles, spirits, and heroes. Each type has certain advantages. + Each faction card has unique abilities + Balance money and cards: each turn you can draw 3 cards and/or coins. You need cards to do anything, but you also need coins to play them. + Simple combat resolution: who has the most total strength in one of the three cities? + Captured city tiles are worth victory points. If you use the unique ability, it is worth less victory points at the end of the game. + Each player has six objectives ("Feats") to gain additional victory points each game + Different end conditions: either 5 of 6 Feats are completed or 2 of 3 city tile stacks are depleted. + Easy to teach and play + Quick playing time Neutrals: # Language dependent: ability text on cards # Theme: Greek, Mythology, rather abstract # Deterministic and open information (except for cards in hand) # Game box is bigger than necessary (Kosmos two player box size). However, all expansion content fits into it. # Luck of the draw can create swingy games. Drafting variant recommended but lentghens the game. # Indirect attacks seem to be the more efficient option than direct battles. # A lot of take-that (e. g., force opponent to discard his hand). Similar games: * Battle Line (2 players only, mix between Lost Cities and Poker, no hidden information, very deterministic, bluffing, by Reiner Knizia) * Haven

Fits all the criteria for a top game for me - awesome gameplay in terms of mechanics and replayability - portable and easy to setup - top notch components (esp artwork) Definitely value for the money.
