Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Frustratingly random at times yet I can't dislike the game. Great art, good graphic design and looks amazing on the table. Great beer & pretzels game. The revised rulebook is a lot clearer but still not perfect (ex some Quest resolution stuff). Despite what the box says it's clearly intended to be played with 4 or 6 players. 2 is... not great. You simply can't reach far enough reliably enough which adds even more randomness on top. 3 and 5 is super punishing if you use the rules as written.

My comment is for quality of game components and a brief first turn solo play (which appears to work fine). The quality of the game is fantastic. The art is wonderful and illustrations are abundant throughout the game. The game board is beautiful and of outstanding quality. The thick components punched out cleanly and the art on them is terrific, in harmony with art on the cards. Everything is close to perfect as possible, though I'm not a fan of the bold type in the manual, which would have benefitted with more play examples. I am looking forward to writing a review after I have more time to play. If excellent art and quality of components are important to you, this game is a winner. Of course the game design is more critical, though my first attempt to learn and play the game reveals a very interesting theme with depth and replay potential.

Upcoming (2016-09) pure co-op. Encounters are story-based, similar to but with more flavor than EH. Combat is more detailed, with attack/defend each round, and keep going until you win, lose, or retreat. $52 CAD on preorder. Self-published.
