Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.

it would have gotten much higher ratings except for the flaws in the puzzle piece design of the submarines. in the original copy, there were numerous tabs and notches that weren't sized correctly. forcing them to fit means that the tabs will easily fray when you try to remove them to upgrade or put away after the game. i contacted iello. they acknowledged the error, apologized, and sent me new pieces straightaway. do you want to guess? the replacements were a thinner gauge of chip board and many pieces still did not fit. i can't believe they would release this game to the public with these errors. the mechanics of the game, the theming, and overall gameplay are superb. the sub flaws don't overall detract from a very fun game. i'd recommend. however, if you have a player with ocd, they will not like this at all.
Born-of-Ashes
I like this form of drafting where one player gets the leftovers from the others. The options for upgrading your submarine seem balanced and you really need to focus on one or two elements out of the five because the game is too short to do more. This means that different games really will see different strategies. The production is really nice. All the subs have unique themes and the way the cards form a seascape is well done.

A decent family game with cute components, Oceanos is the typical twilight game: it’s neither good nor bad. It’s playable, runs smoothly and doesn’t really disappoint but in the end you don’t feel any desire to play it again.
