Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I had low expactations for this game after reading the comments on bgg. It was a nice surprise to play the game and actually liking it. Deluxe tokens are nice and components are good quality, except for the bows that are a bit flimsy. Gameplay is smooth. Choose a die, place your die, take the resource(s) and the action. Equip your noble. Fulfill a quest. A nice twist is the season-wheel that gives you the opportunity to take the resource twice. The only thing that is really unbalanced is the first-player advantage during the first rounds for choosing the die you want(after that, you have monsters to adapt your dice). Enjoyable game when you want some diceplacement, some player-interaction and some dragons. And when you don't want to spend hours on one game.

Nice and easy-to-start game, but it should be played as one year only for sure instead of 3(!!) in case of two players

Really is an engaging game with a rondel I haven't quite seen before. Curses are the big problem for dragging the game down in the muck, but I'm hopeful that an expansion or V2 fixes that impact.
