Playtested 2016. Lovely game played with very nice prototype components. The designer is a nice guy and listened to all -very minor -niggles and ideas for variants. The game is similar to Municipium and to a lesser extent, El Grande (EG is very AP prone in my opinion while M and 9W are much smoother once you know the rules but still offer a lot to think about. 9W is almost like a larger, gamers version of M without any cards). Hard to fault the gameplay and I think we all thoroughly enjoyed the game. During the night I woke up with ideas for variants -for me a sure sign of a captivating game. Not sure, it might have taken a couple of hours to play with 4 players, the folks at the next table probably played 2 games of 9W in that time, and we will certainly get faster with practice. You can also shorten the playing time by playing fewer scoring rounds but we declined... another nice touch in an excellent game.

I'm not a huge fan of area majority, but I love the world powers on this, and what this adds to the game. Beats games like Mission Red Planet hands down. Building up for the scoring rounds is tense, and the combat is simple yet great for balancing out the game. Great design, excellent fun.

The rules are simple, but the gameplay itself is complex enought to warrant a different experience every time you play. Also, there's no luck involved at all.
