When I first heard about Roll for the Galaxy I sincerely wondered why that game should exist. Upon playing it, my expectations were overturned by a wonderfully deep system that I ultimately found mo engaging than the original. New Frontiers I went into with a very open mind, largely due to the aforementioned rejection, but came away feeling my original Roll criticism was well placed here. It's big, clunky, expensive, and ultimately offers little the other titles do not. New Frontiers gives more long term strategic options to new players, but that distinction feels smaller than I expected after a few plays.

Very fun engine building game - plays differently than race. Having all the develop cards out in the open allows for long-term planning and blocking. Easier to teach new players, better for viewing the game state. If I have the time, I will bring this to the table instead of race. Cursed (blessed?) with some atrocious box art that makes it extremely unsellable. If I'm introducing this to a group, I never let them see the box. Good thing the components are good quality and attractive.

I am new to the hobby and as a result am or was blissfully unaware of the Race for the Galaxy card games. I was drawn to this game because of the artwork. First play through and I can already tell I am going to be a fan. Lovely art, great theme, great table presence, and lots of choices and replyability. It's a keeper and I hope they add some expansions in the future. Edit: A few more plays under my belt and this game is really growing on me. One of the few games that I can finish and immediately feel like playing again. I really hope they come out with some expansions in the coming years.
