A lot of luck of the draw from the exploration action. A less strategic version of Puerto Rico with some Race for the Galaxy added.

Played two-player only, and I’ve never played Puerto Rico (I prefer this theme because it’s not offensive) or Race/Roll for the Galaxy. I’m disappointed and sure it’s me, not the game. Early on, when we mastered the rules and things clicked, we had so much fun. Analysis paralysis wasn’t an issue, and we especially enjoyed the pacing. But later, every game seemed repetitious because military overrode all other gameplay. Choose to focus on non-military and lose. Use military strategy, mostly pass on everything else, attain high score, repeat. It seemed as though half the components in the game sat unused. Maybe it’s a lack of skill or experience or pandemic brain, but this wasn’t a good fit. Or maybe it’s because my partner and I play too nice. We don’t mess with each other at all. We have other games we’d rather play. Side notes: the set up and take down are quick and simple, and the rulebook is well written.

A more filled-out, complex version of Puerto Rico. I'm not a big RFTG fan, and this was fine, but not sure it's worth the extra complexity.
