This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Another Eklund simulation "game." Interesting but you roll a lot of dice and the results drive your success or failure. That being said, there are strategic decisions and there's plenty to do.

3 games with neanderthalensis vs. sapiens and no tribal switch in sight. The multi-step precondition structure coupled with the usual devastating event cards (elder die-off) means you won't get anything done within the 10 or 11 turns the game gives you. It might work with a longer setting (15 turns?). Greenland works much better in that regard and I think I'll stick with that in the future. Had no problem with the rules. The 7 rating here is more for the Phil Eklund experience of exploring the theory halo, than the actual gameplay. Rating system: Integral - objective value | fractional - want to play

Card bidding, resource management game for 2-3 players. Very deep, complex, streamlined, long game for such a small box! It has also an interesting, scientific background. Quite heavy conflict between players. Coop mode is like playing solo with multiple people. + Variability - Rules written in a more scientific language See also Greenland
