Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Manitoba was just a little too light. There's very little to do in this game and few meaningful choices. Despite that you still feel like you don't get the time to accomplish anything, so it feels like it's aiming to be one of those deliciously crunchy medium weight euros without having the substance of one. You get about 15 actions across the whole game which are then divided between taking a resource from the central board or bumping a single track. Often times the resource you want is depleted which means your key decision point here is gone. A few times per game you are starting player so you get to do both a map action and a track action as a special bonus. The tracks main purpose is to skip a specific resource's scoring phase. Holding onto more tokens of a type becomes worth more money, the higher on your personal track you fill, and tokens wash away when scored, so this is an important thing to manage, but scorings come every two to three rounds during which you've been active player maybe once. There's a little more to it than that but not enough for me. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment

The game asks you to visualize the numerous majestic Manitoba mountains. Are you kidding me? Manitoba is almost completely flat. The three or so "mountains" in Manitoba have such low elevations, they look more like hills. Everyone involved with the creative side of this game should be ashamed and embarrassed. Many foundational elements of the theme are just straight up factually incorrect and potentially offensive to Native religious and cultural beliefs. It's evident next to zero research was done before slapping this frankenstein of a theme on the game.

Very intelligent worker placement game with a neat totem mechanism and a well designed scoring system. Would suggest on any game night
