Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A great worker placement, engine-building game. I like how the pieces come together as you play. The church/faith points provide a nice carrot/stick. Definitely my kind of game.

Really enjoyed this, but this isn't for everyone and can be fragile. Poor dice roles can make a tight game stifling and semi randomised card costs can also have an effect which can feel unfair; an opponent can pay for the perfect card for them with a 1 powered worker whilst the perfect card for you costs 7 due to luck of the draw. That being said there are lots of potential strategies and means for mitigation but they most likely require familiarity with the game or at least this style of game. It can be very mean and in contrast to many worker placement or engine building games, can be highly interactive due to the limitations of spaces and how tight resources can be. Creative thought around problems, anticipation and the ability to switch strategies are required to do well. There is a definite cadence to the game which needs to be grasped... failure to set up certain synergies in the early game will bite hard by the end game when the costs of everything ramps up, as do the rewards. This can be an unforgiving experience whereby the impact of errors can compound themselves. The game definitely does something interesting with the familiar euro mechanisms of worker placement and engine building and is a game that most euro fans should try atleast once; but the tightness and interaction will not be for everyone. Plays pretty quickly aswell at 2 player...

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would considering it is just another engine building/resource management euro.
