I think my frustrating in this game is the component choices, while nice just raise the bar to a different tier of board game where it doesn't compete. As a lighter engine building card game this was definitely fun. It is more tactical than long term strategy because you are adapting to the cards on display which can be taken by another player. It is also randomly setup so its entirely possible that some games it is difficult to get rocks while in others it is the main focus. I like that though since it is tactical but I think some people didn't realize that level of randomness and how tactical it is. If someone takes that needed card for your engine it can be punishing since you are generating a bunch of things you now no longer need and need to adapt on the fly. If you go into it knowing it is all tactics then I think you will have a better time. The marble feel a bit gimmicky but it does work and create a nice level of random but yet strategic placement to get the necessary resources. I often found myself manipulating the marbles to get them to line up for a future better payoff. The rest of the game is about pumping up the faith track as well as cashing in resources for point cards and conversion abilities. Player powers are pretty unique in that you have to earn them by fulfilling some criteria. The faith track feels pretty important and pretty closely tied to winning so it is something you have to focus on as it rewards more than half your points if you max it out and play well with the cards. I think what makes this game stand out is it captures the typical resource conversion game in about half the time as the others. But back to my frustration, I just wish it was more accessible. Take something like res arcana which msrp for $40 is regularly on sale for $25 which I would compare this game to, is nearly half the price. At that point there is no comparison as the quality is high on that game with similar gameplay for half the money. I think if they wanted to keep the marble aspect they should have ditched the playerboards and had one central track for all players, made the storage out of cards, and you built up your tableau without stacking. The player board doesn't really add much to the gameplay and I would have liked to see them bring the cost down to make it a must buy. As it stands, I will wait for the used market to try and pick it up for $20 as it is well worth that, but I just can't get to $40. If you find yourself looking for a weeknight engine building game that is more about tactics then I think this could be a winner if you find it at the right price.

Taking one of the 3 simple actions every turn makes the game quick and streamlined. The taking resources with marbles solution is awesome, provide interesting choices. It has pleasant similarities with Lorenzo, but different in many ways, and is an absolutely standalone game. Must try for those who like engine building games. Played in solo, it's also challenging and satisfying.

INITIAL REVIEW: 3 Player game. Played at Spiel, Essen. This was a very nice surprise. The game played quickly with some interesting decisions. Replayability is very apparent and I am looking forward to getting a copy for my wife and I to enjoy.
