    I backed this game and wanted it to be good so bad. The art is amazing and the ideas going on are quiet interesting but ultimately the game just doesn't have much meat on its good bones. The core of the base game is weak, the strategies are simplistic and often not fun to play, and ultimately the game is just lacking something.

    Its unique mechanic is what makes this board game so great. You, the player, use your own life force to summon familiars and use cards to try to kill the person to your left, while also constantly trying to defend yourself from the person on your right. You slowly regenerate health between turns, so your health basically becomes the currency in this game. This game is about carefully balancing your own health so that you are powerful, but not too much to be left vulnerable. Because of this, the game becomes really intense as no one wants to give up too much health and die, but you also want to summon familiars using your health to fight for you so you can win.

    As a big Dragoon fan, I was interested in what Lay Waste Games had to offer next. I watched the Man vs Meeple playthrough and thought it looked like a really good game so I backed the Kickstarter. We just received our copy (May 2020) and played our first two, two-player games, one normally and the second with the two-player variant. Very think-y. Very strategic. Two thumbs way up.

Dragons have taken over the surface, forcing humans underground. During explorations, you and your fellow humans discover a box with an orange glowing eye on the outside. The words DO NOT OPEN are carved on the sides. Of course you open it…ONLY TO BE INSTANTLY CURSED!

The only escape is to take out your closest friend with your new cursed powers to summon Familiars and cast spells at the cost of your own life.

Each player’s goal in Life Siphon is to defeat the player to their left, and the game ends when the first player drops to zero health, meaning you must plan your strategy to be effective offensively against one player while defending against another. Since everything costs your own health, the heavier your offense, the more vulnerable you are. You may even find yourself aiding your attacker to give you the opportunity to make the killing blow.
