In the world of Galecrest, sky pirates set sail on the winds in search of adventure, treasure, and glory. As an admiral, you command a vast and varied crew…but so do your rivals sailing other ships in the pirate fleet. Each day the fleet lands on a different island where you’ll send a crew member to collect your share of the loot, hoping they’ll return to boost your growing group of characters.
Libertalia was originally released in 2012. Ten years later, Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest celebrates the foundations of the original design with a revised and expanded edition that includes all-new art, 40 characters per player, a reputation system to resolve ties, deluxe loot tokens, a robust solo mode, and much more.

Worst game ever played. How this game got a 7.5 is baffling. Played it 4 times as I don't like to leave a review after 1 play, but all played rounds were the same. The luck factor is way too high in this game. I might as well play a dice game. The artwork looks nice, it gives you a feeling that you can actually build a hand and influence others and make a choice, but it's just luck at the end. Also, in this game you make 3 trips. If you didn't win one of the first two, you can just stop playing, because it is impossible to win the game then. Saves you 20 minutes. Gonna get rid of this game asap.

Succesful re-implementation of the original game. Just different enough to have its own flavour. Nice art, with a clear nod to Disney's Treasure Planet. Nice variation possible due to the calm weather and storm sides. Loot tokens have become more versatile. Still easy enough to learn and explain.

❦ Solo Mode // Included in the Base Game ❦ Required Play Space // 28" x 24" ❦ Setup Time // 5 Minutes ❦ Play Time // 35 Minutes ✅ The loot tokens are made out of thick acrylic to give them a very distinct appearance and wonderful weight. ✅ Managing the pirates on each voyage takes some planning and can be influenced by what loot tokens are available. ✅ Almost all of the instructions are printed on the game board, which makes referencing the rulebook minimal. ✅ Each day presents a small puzzle to optimize for, yet the random pilferer card never makes this guaranteed. ✅ Most of the solo opponent’s actions and decisions are simple to understand with very little downtime to manage. ✅ Daytime and dusk activate in opposite directions to provide thoughtful decision points about abilities and loot. ❌ Although different combinations of pirates can be interesting, the majority have been seen after a few plays. ❌ The theme doesn’t come through, and gameplay mostly boils down to looking at numbers and odds. ❌ Play time moves along with little downtime, yet for what the solo experience offers, it feels just a little too long. ❌ Achieving high scores is heavily influenced by the luck of the draw and which pirates are in play each voyage.
