Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

We have only played about 3 scenarios, but we loved it so much I think we own all the expansions and follow-up stand-alone games. We need to get it back to the table!

Not at all a fan, but rating a 5 because it's a functional game and might be a fun solo. Played twice. In the second game, one player with slight input figured out the strategy for victory, laid out the plan, and then we just spent all game executing it without any real decision-making. Nothing came up to really derail us, despite some monster spawns. By the time we reached the boss we had to take down in the scenario (not mentioning which one to avoid spoilers), we were all so well-prepared that despite his best double-six rolls, he died in a single turn. One major issue with the game was the huge downtimes. Sometimes it was very advantageous to have one character waste all their moves on one very short task. After that, the player had nothing to do for the whole scenario. As a result, players who had finished until the next day would go chat with friends, leading them to not be involved in the big decision-making. By the time they returned, the strategy was fully laid out and their move was already optimized. Sometimes people chose to do something suboptimal just for fun, but it's annoying to me when a game makes it so clear what the optimal moves are. I felt the game was playing us rather than us playing the game. Moves are tight in the game and the right move is clear, so it's impossible for alpha gamer types to not dominate. Overall - I can't say I had a bad time playing this game, but compared to the ambiguity of games like Pandemic or the hidden information of games like Dead of Winter, I doubt I could justify actually playing this game again, unless I was playing solo. And frankly, there's better, less-fiddly solo games out there.
