Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

I really really enjoy Michael Menzel's artwork in Stone Age, Bruges and Legends of Andor. And so do I in Legends of Andor: Journey to the North. I just want to crawl into the worlds Menzel creates and live there... peacefully... while occassionally hunting bears, fighting rats and beating monsters. Journey to the North is even better than its predecessor. Much of the fun comes from the well-integrated theme. While it felt a bit easier than the base game, we still had a hell of time dying over and over again, especially in the last scenario. It's not a 10 for me, because the storytelling is not that good. It's not a Tolkien-tale you're getting. There are flat characters, overused fantasy-plots and cheesy sentences on the scenario cards. Still, in all the genericness of the theme, there is a unique atmosphere that the base game doesn't have, and I think this comes from the fact that the story is set on the sea. The setting is just a bit more unconventional.

Haven't played Legends of Andor yet, but anticipate it being a huge hit. Which is why Journey to the North is on my wishlist.
