Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

This is one of the more interesting Euros I've played. It feels very focused which I appreciate. The live, fluctuating economy is pretty neat. The components are lovely. Always enjoy this one.

The game seems artificially close. I'm not sure if you can maneuver the actions and building spaces enough to consistently win the game.

I understand why this game is so popular, but honestly I don't like it at all. First of all the mechanic is great and innovative, I hope it will be used in other games later, because it is something that deserves attention. But other than that the game doesn't offer much for me. The constantly fluctuating exchange rate make it impossible to think ahead and to build a strategy. It's a highly tactical game, but way too unbalanced even for that. That can be really frustrating. It seems like you have a lot of options in this game, but in fact the game helps you to know what's worth doing. If the exchange rate is high, then sell. If it low, then build, build, build, because building is way too strong action, especially with the patrician scoring. Mining is hardly worth the action, and Saint Barbara tokens can be really strong, but sometimes not at all. So it's too easy to find out what you should doing in your turn. In other words the ideas are smart and innovative, but not well translated into the game.
