Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

kemet encourages players to attack because successful offensive moves are rewarded with permanent victory points. it's a bit hard to keep track of which players have which power tiles. lots of time was spent reading what the power tiles do with the player aid. i suspect with more plays this would no longer be an issue. with more plays i also expect the rating to rise. edit september 1 2022 - 1 game left a sour taste with everyone because I tried to collude with another player to throw a battle to prevent the player in the lead fron winning. I will ban collusion in future games, but if players can see what they need to do in order to have a chance of winning/preventing someone else from winning, I think that's OK. edit 2023 february 18 - opening tends to start out the same, with players rushing for power tiles that boost economy of prayer points.

IMO best area control game right now. Although my one gripe is that the order of play at the beginning can make a big difference (for tile selection).

Initial Impression: I've played the original Kemet and this was a much better overall experience. The production for this version of the game is through the roof. I particularly love the creature minis and pyramids. The player aids are very handy. The game trays made set up and teardown quick and painless. The game is better than I remembered it. Each faction is racing to get points by engaging in battles and controlling areas. As such, battles don't feel personal. You don't feel the need to exact revenge on the player who just beat your army. Instead, you're constantly looking for ways to generate points. My favorite part of the game are the technologies. With so many to choose from, I just want to try them all in every combination possible. This is a game that I'm very tempted to add to my collection.
