Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Co-operative play encourages or requires players to work together to beat the game.
Cooperative Play
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

I was really drawn to the art, the concept and mostly the iconography. It looks like a crazy absinthe night in the 60s when you discover that that wasn't just absinthe. It all looks cool, but there just isn't much game here. The system doesn't allow you to dally, but there isn't anything to explore anyway. You just walk in a line, see what you get, make some obvious calculated decisions then defeat the bad guy (or not). While it is thankfully short, it still overstays its welcome. Honestly, I'm not so sure that there are many (any?) real decisions to make through the whole game. I give it a 3 only because of the cool monsters.

Really enjoy this game. Quite cool illustrations and different game play: you play together with one winner. Simple enough rules. 5/20: A quick (30 min with two) game of adventure in a marvellously illustrated magic land. Manage your energy, racing to fight the big baddie before he gains control over the world. Semi-coop, I managed to tank our game by being a bit selfish, although Aud had the chance to win it but rolled a draw with the big baddie, dooming us to a lifetime of servitude to the dark lord. Simple enough game, perhaps a bit too easy to plan battles at the basic game level, but in this way it keeps the game moving. Did I mention I love the art on the tiles and chits?

I have never played a game like this before, that is sort of semi-cooperative. You want to win alone, but when faced with defeat all around, you may still choose to fight together for a lesser victory. Defeating the game alone would be easy if time was sufficent, but as all players lose after a timer reaches its end, you have to press onward as fast as possible to reach the bad guy, and willingly suffer the consequences of this recklessness. It truly creates a strong feeling of a cursed Island insnaring you in its grip, the further you go. One of my favorite games I own.
