Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

This itches the same scratch as Arkham Horror: Final Hour although the mechanics are different (I like Final Hour a lot). So this is not mechanically very deep game, but it doesn't need to be. The theme is really great and flavourful. The mechanic is more like resource management with cards and dice but not allowing to speak with each other freely in a co-op makes this quite unique. There is nothing innovative in looting for parts and quests from a bigger deck as well as "skill checks" with dice but it still works. The luck of drawing cards or throwing dice is a quite big deal but it is not the whole game and is acceptable in co-ops; not every game need to be a brain burner/math competition. Haven't played the whole campaign yet, but I wish there will be more expansions and/or more campaigns in the future.

Bare bones horror beat back the monsters long enough to escape the island and before the get to the "heart of darkness" at the other end of the island. It is a classic move, search, attack paradigm ... not very inventive... it is fine for what it is. Box is fairly small that makes it more mobile than Mansions of Madness. Can be played solo.

A very thematic game with simple gameplay that is very easy to bring to the table. We wished there was a bit more variety in the decks of cards though! Full Review in the forums!
