Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Fantastic game. The best game I have played in 2021. The civilisations play quite differently and require alternative strategies to win. The rulebook is a little difficult to follow, but after watching a playthrough and examine the game components it all made sense.

It's fun! It's too long! There's so little interaction. I'm really not a fan of pre-made decks that push you towards one strategy. For instance, I much prefer 51st State to Imperial Settlers for that reason. I like how your strategy is informed by the cards you draw and that you have to tactically adapt/react. It's also the same reason why I love Race for the Galaxy, which is also a tableau builder. I don't think I will be keeping this one, but I'm happy to play if someone has a copy and wants to play 1v1. Why I got rid of it: Too long. The interaction between players is not that interesting. Fiddly.

Imperium Legends is an asymmetric civilization card game. It is an hybrid between a tableau builder and a deck builder, and it works fantastically in delivering an unique and awesome experience. It has some weak spots: it is clunky at times, and can be a little on the longer side (with downtime being a problem with 3+ Nevertheless, it does lots of thing right! First, tentative rating is a 7.
