Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

2022-08-02 - 6.5 - an OK area control like game with nice artwork and interesting use of a 3D board. It plays pretty quickly.

Does exactly what it promises perfectly. The components are great and the gameplay was solid and surprising.

Holi: Festival of Color by @floodgategames is a 3 level area control game where you throw colored powder on the ground and on your opponents! In the game, you’ll take turns playing your pattern cards to throw your tokens onto the board in the depicted pattern. You’ll also get to move your meeple anywhere on your level and if you’re surrounded on all 4 sides with color tokens, you’ll get to climb up to the next level. If you manage to directly hit an opponent with your color token, you’ll get a point and you’ll get to place a token into your opponent’s pool of color. They can throw them on their turn but any of your tokens in an opponents pool at the end of the game scores you 2 points. What is interesting about the game is that every color token on the ground at the end of the game will score you 1-3 points depending on whether you are on level 1-3, pushing you to go higher to score more points. However, if you throw color on a space where there is no token below it, it will fall through so you’ll want to maneuver such that you’re throwing on spaces that will keep your tokens there. Additionally, there are candy tokens placed on the board that are tempting to collect since they provide additional points but can also put you in a compromising position. You can even trap them with color as you’ll have to pick up any color tokens on a space you move to. The game is also extremely replayable as there are variable rivalry cards that changes up the rules and gives you additional scoring opportunities! We really enjoyed this game and with it’s simple to teach gameplay, would easily recommend anyone to check it out! Originally posted on https://www.instagram.com/p/C1wyPtZy1CL/
