Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory (Standard Edition)
90m - 180m
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.

(Played class: the State) The experience is excellent even though when we found out we have some rules played wrong in the game. The game has a perfect theme in which the mechanism (of each class) is well fitted in the theme while giving players immersive gaming experience. The game is dynamic and the traction of different classes is quite tight, hence giving me great impression on player interaction. However, the later stage of the game is a bit repetitive. I hope adding the expansions to the game may fix this problem. I am looking forward to play with expansions.

Super asymmetrical and not well balanced either. You urgently need a well-rehearsed players (!) Newcomers are otherwise completely lost. Otherwise you waste 3 hours, have no chance .... Nice game nights look different. Only makes sense with 4 people and then it takes very, very long. Any other constellation shows the weaknesses of this game extremely! In terms of game duration, required number of players and their familiarity, there are far better and more entertaining 4-person games.

2024 Mar: I absolutely love and respect how this game was put together! It's a real labor of love and hands down one of the best educational tools out there—you get to teach and play at the same time, or play by teaching, however you like to see it. But, I've gotta point out a couple of things. First off, you really need to get the basics of classes, state, policies, and maybe even a bit of economics to fully enjoy and get the depth of the game. It's all about those themes and simulations, which are spot on. They're not overly simple, but also not ridiculously complex. It's like the game nails the perfect level of complexity. For context, think of "Democracy" the video game—it's way more complicated in terms of simulation. The second thing is, this is the first time I've ever given a board game a 5 for complexity. By that, I mean the game itself is complex, but there's also a ton of asymmetry with the factions. You've gotta learn how to play each one, not just the game. Plus, if you're not up to speed with the theme, there's a whole world to explore to figure out what makes each faction tick. It's all about maximizing your strengths and slowing down your rivals in this competitive game. Extra notes: The quality of the components is great. We're talking dual-layered player boards, awesome graphics, and functional pieces. And it's a long game—expect at least 150 minutes even for two non-beginner players, not including setup and teardown.
