Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.
Pick-up and Deliver
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Deeply thematic but tough game to win due to excessive random elements in the game. I have won, but one of my losses would have resulted in a win if I had drawn any of the other the other "last stand" cards! OK, I put myself into that position which meant I learnt for future games to build greater resilience. But still very enjoyable.

Great theme and collection of mechanisms, works together beautifully in a mix of worker placement, bag building, tower defense, and crisis management. Easy to recommend for anyone that likes survival games like Robinson Crusoe, Frostpunk, or David Thompson's Valiant Defense series. Couple points off for wildly swingy early-game bag pulls that can really make or break a game, and total lack of organizer leading to a much too long setup time.

Really clever worker placement/tower defence game about the Nazi invasion of Norway. Lots of interesting levers to pull. Things quickly escalate, so it’s challenging. Note the rules on scaling the difficulty towards the end of the rule book.
