Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Buen juego con varias posibilidades dónde puntuar y bastante accesible. Jugado en el Queimada con la copia del Enric. La interesante es la copia Deluxe pero esta es más que aceptable. Repetiría partida en cualquier momento sin problemas.

I was lucky enough to try out the deluxe edition of Gugong and man, the components are gorgeous. I really liked the puzzle of the card-swapping mechanic. It changed up the usual rules of worker placement. However...I found myself lukewarm to the rest of the game. It was an experience of tiny cuts. The aforementioned cardplay has a dice mechanic that I felt could be better integrated. Sometimes it felt like the dice lined up too well for a player, and taking steps to prevent/change them seldom felt advantageous. Also, even with the flashy player pieces the worker mini-games felt uninspired. They mostly boiled down to pay a cost, move on a track or place a servant token. Thematically it makes sense the actions would impress the imperial court, but everything felt more functional than fun. It helps that rounds go surprisingly quick, and I imagine some players may want to return sooner than later. However, I felt that, outside of optimizing my cardplay, I had seen most of what Gugong had to offer.

Printed/proxied in anticipation of Kickstarter, up to >10 plays (mostly solo vs automa). Smooth tactical Euro woth interesting WP system and many clever interlocking mechanics. Some spots are of varying power levels. (I designed the solo mode, which I like quite a bit.) Interesting Decisions: 5/5 Fun: 4/5 Flow: 6/5 Interactivity: 3/5 Tail: 4/5 Presentation: 5/5 Overall: 9/10
