Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

I like it, but it does come up a little short of what it's trying to do. I like the card play and different heroes. But kills are too easy, and too strong. I think next time we are gonna nerf the rewards and see what we think. :) Video game theme :) Unique characters :) Good action and ultimate system :soblue: A bit too easy to get kills :soblue: Killing to strong for scoring :soblue: Feels like it's just missing something

Preliminary Notes: I like the way the bases are done here better than Smash Up (annoying to add-up), but the game doesn’t scale all well as Smash-Up. I think PH makes solid beautiful games, but this one is a bit generic. I don’t think many games will catch up on the variability of Smash-Up (in fact they have too many decks for me at this point, but maybe if you play Smash-Up a lot, like with your kids—It’s nice to keep the combos fresh). Eventually when this game adds like 10-20 new characters, it’ll probably come down to preference to new gamers who want a ‘Shufflebuilding’ gateway game. What would you rather have a weird funny 2-4 player game or a more video game-esk looking game for 2 dudes? Personally, a I already have Smash Up and prefer the option for the higher player count—I already have a lot of amazing 2 player head-to-head games, not to mention I recently acquired all of the EPIC fantasy/magic at a great price on a BGG auction, which is kind of a classic fantasy themed shufflebuilding game, but it doesn’t revolve around location dominance—also the jury is still out if I’ll like it, but it was such a great steal of a price (and it has a awesome box) that I could trade/sell it—but I think it will be fun from what I read and I think it’s crazy surprising that it’s the least known of the games aforementioned, yet shufflebuilding with a random Fantasy Class + Race seems like a perfect fit for such a mechanic. As usual, I’ll revisit these preliminary thoughts if someone really wants to play this with me—I’m definitely not the guy who refuses to play a game I’ve never tried...Unless maybe it’s a 8 hour Wargame—although, I’d still give it a try if it’s a close friend/family/partner—after all, isn’t that what board games—or dare I say, life and love are all about? ...Didn’t I’d go there on a light random dude game comment, huh?! Well then, maybe you just don’t know me at all....

Despite one or two hitches, Guardians is a sublime location-grabber that deserves more attention. Read my review here: https://spacebiff.com/2018/11/14/guardians/
