Art and production really makes this game better then what it really is. There is some strategy in the game although you are tied to your hand so having low cards usually means getting no points. I like how the cards have different values for scoring so winning a trick doesn't necessarily get you points. Rules on when you can play a card got confusing and the game is longer than what it should be. There are many choices in the game that you don't get to make because you have to follow the preferred school so I feel like I'm just tossing cards away. I rather play UNO than this.

I really enjoy the artwork. The game mechanics take some getting used to if you have played other trick-taking games. My group and I were consistently forgetting about the trump factor (preferred school) for the first several play-throughs. As we played more, it has gotten easier to remember but there is a bit of an adjustment period so it's going to take someone a few times to fully understand what they are doing. I was pretty excited about this game but it hasn't held up in my gaming group.

I have an enormous trick-taking collection that I’ve built a geeklist for. It features more in-depth thoughts on Gorus Maximus, as well as thoughts on a lot of the 150+ other games listed! Check it out at the link below. You may just find your favorite new, obscure trick-taker there! Preliminary details: Love the Art. Rating and thoughts coming soon.
