Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

This expansion makes the game less punishing and adds competition. Also increases player count to 5. It's a pretty solid expansion.

This isn't really a normal expansion so much as an almost completely different game - Ghost Stories as a competitive game, which I think works very well. The choices available to Wu Feng are very interesting and the bloody mantras seem to be fairly powerful weapons. It's not really clear for me yet what the really good choices are for the Taoists, though - it seems to be very difficult to have much effect on the demons. I do wish they would do a better job of explaining all the different symbol combinations added to the game and especially including them all on the reference sheet itself. Having to constantly switch between looking things up on the reference sheet and looking things up in the rulebook is rather irritating. That's really a problem in the entire Ghost Stories series, but the sheer number of new symbols in this expansion make it stand out even more here.

I am not a big fan of those expansions for coop games that try to turn it into a competitive experience. Some of the new stuff in Black Secret is fun, but some also feels fiddly and unthematic, so it's a mixed bag. However, the biggest sin by far of the expansion is that, by giving Wu Feng something interesting to do, it actually removes some major strategic choices for the players (mainly where to place ghosts). So playing as the monks in Black Secret is not only brutally hard and with more downtime than before, but it actually feels less involving and tactical.
