Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Bought in Lethbridge in summer of 2014 for $13.99. Even at that price I feel ripped off! It's a simple card game that can be played with a standard deck of cards. It has nothing to do with Game of Thrones whatsoever. I have been repeatedly disappointed with Reiner Knizia games lately. He likes using colours, but the themes are weak. Plays better with 4 than with 3. It's growing on me a little, but first impressions were terrible. I played it with Don and Jesse using a normal deck of cards.

The game seems really stupid at first, but is actually mildly amusing. It's so short, however, that it takes longer to set up than it does to play. It's the kind of game you play while watching TV because it hardly warrants your full attention. We also love joking about how amazingly thematic the game is. You really feel like Jaime Lannister and Robb Stark fighting it out in Westeros. Yeah, right. On the other hand, I probably never would have played it when it was penguin-themed, so I suppose their marketing ploy worked.
