Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Only played once. It was fun. I think I'd have to try it another time or two to see if my current rating was still appropriate.

I probably prefer this to it's sibling, Terra Mystica, promarily because of the introduction of the Research tracks rather than the Cult tracks. Both are meaty games that really reward repeated plays and the variability in set up and races means that every time is a new challenge. It's one of those games though where a 'good' player will always beat new or inexperienced players

Maybe I'll give this another go one day, but it just felt like unless you play this game a tonne you're just battling against the system. Depth vs Complexity is a difficult relationship, I have no doubt that this game has a lot of depth, but the complexity is a real barrier. EDIT: 2023 update Played again, now with more experience in board gaming in general, while I can respect this game and think it achieves what it sets out to achieve it is not really one for me. I have no problem with no luck euros, no problem with tight euros, but theres something about this game that just feels like homework, you're solving an efficiency puzzle in a very naked sense, you are kind of building an engine but you can choke it if you're not careful. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is I don't enjoy, I love Anachrony, but that feels like a game with a fun arc where you build a fun engine, the tightness works, but I think its ultimately because the theme comes across more and it feels like more than just an efficiency puzzle.
