A very pleasing game of cat and mouse where the cats are never sure where the mouse is... And the mouse is a super powerful vampire. Mechanics as the hunters work very much like that of Eldritch Horror, you have two actions and can move, rest, supply for weapons or search to uncover any available encounters, all the while trying to cover ground to uncover the trail of Dracula, when you find his trail, the hunters converge to try and defeat him in battle. Dracula has excellent moving mechanics that create a hidden trail for the hunters to try and find, leaving traps and hinderances along the way, his purpose being to remain hidden from his foes so that he can raise young vampires to maturity and spread his dark influence over Europe. This is done by picking an adjacent location each turn and laying the location card face down next to his previous locations, this creates a trail up to 6 cities long that the hunters must find to get onto the scent. The use of day and night are employed well, limiting the hunters actions in the night and making supply actions risky, while leaving the days free of worry or hinderance. My only reservation is the lack of depth of the combat mechanics, combat works in a way that the enfeebled Mina Harker is every bit as capable in a fight as the mighty hunter Van Helsing, which seems a bit weird to me. Overall a very involving game that tells a great story of a hunt for a very nefarious foe! I heartily recommend.

I'm giving it a 2 only because Talisman exists. It's like hidden movement with no strategy. Did Dracula play well? Random cards will tell you where he is. Did the hunters corner Dracula? No matter, random cards will make him escape. Eventually someone will get lucky. Theres no tension. The third or fourth time the hunters find Dracula (the climax of most hidden movement games) you'll just roll your eyes, knowing that some cards will get played and some meaningless damage handed out. This game is meant to give the illusion of strategic play, but there's so many comeback mechanisms on both sides that nothing at all matters.
