This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.
Pick-up and Deliver

Thematically this is a winner. It abstracts things just enough to avoid offense, while maintaining an admirable sense of the importance of the enterprise. Have used effectively to teach the history of the era and its important figures and dilemmas. Gameplay is brain-burning (in a good way) and the theme keeps coming into view to keep things intense. Winning is truly satisfying!

Great approach to a tough subject. The game feels thoughtful, tense, and even a victory leaves you wishing you could have done more. People question whether games should tackle tough subjects but I think games like Freedom and This Guilty Land do a great job of arguing why we should use games to learn these subjects. Often it's a lot more compelling than a book or movie since you're able to have some interaction (albeit abstracted) with the subject.
