The color palette is good , but the sheer about of randomness can make this game frustrating for those who want to go straight for a win. The winner is the one who can just pick a few extra points here and there.

I didn't like this game at first. It seemed way too cumbersome for what it offered. But now that I know how to play it, I've definitely warmed up to it. It's fun. I do think it's got too much going on for what it is. But if you want what I would call a 'heavy simple' game, this works well. I think maybe one mechanic needed to be chopped off to make this a really great game. As is, it's a fun game I won't mind playing, but definitely won't be buying.

1 play / 3 players LIKE: Good mechanisms put into a crunchy, somewhat heavy, point-salad style of game. The action mechanisms feel fresh, choosing a tile for the resources and then choosing to use the tile as an envoy or a player power. I liked pushing the point bar along to get maximum points, this was a nice goal mechanism. Feels like a game of inches, where every point is hard earned, and future planning is needed, especially planning for maximum benefit from the level 3 trajan cards. Some mild player interaction. DISLIKE: I felt there wasn't enough player-interaction. I really liked the central map area, but I wanted the game to focus more on that part for interesting player decision, but it was too faint to be exciting. There was also a lot of min-maxing points for our first game. I did not like the terminology in the rulebook, too vague: cycle/phase, active citizen/envoy, worker/builder, there are better ways to clarify terms. OVERALL: Good game, for those that like the heavy planning and point-engine building. This wasn't high on player interaction, so I knock it down a point rating, as I don't think it is something I would pull off the shelf often. I felt some hints of Luna here: unique action selection, central area for some competition. I would probably play Luna. End game points were above 80.
