Fjords (Kickstarter – Jarl Pledge)
30m - 45m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 8+
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Not sold on this yet. I like the simplicity, but then again I don't. I am not a huge fan of the overproduced kickstarter version. The little dudes look cool individually, but on the board it looks very busy. I do like the tiles and the artwork on those. Still, I'm just not convinced this is a great game. It seems like it is missing something to me, and I can't figure out what exactly it is. I haven't tried the expansions, so maybe that will fix some stuff, but still... I am just not that excited to try the expansions. I don't know. I want to give it more plays before I decide for sure if I am keeping this or not. Right now I'm on the fence. It seems very surface level, and I'd much rather play Blue Lagoon.

Fjords is a very simple tile-laying game. The basic game which is really just tile laying and some meeple placement a la Carcassone. Other than being hexagonal tiles, there aren't too many significant differences between the two games. When you add in the Rune tiles which allow special placement of meeples and such, it does get a bit more interesting. I like that it's very simple, even with the added Rune tiles. Feels like a game that could appeal to a very wide audience. This game won't wow anyone, but it looks decent on the table and plays easy and works well. We were entertained, but it isn't anything I'm going to get too excited about.
