This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding

Each player must prove to be the most capable fleet admiral to lead a group of survivors to a new home in the galaxy. Players work to gain survival points by taking turns selecting new actions and then bidding to achieve a certain level of reward. Recommend 4-5 players. Good: * Bidding for specific actions. * Customizing fleet abilities from acquired ships. * Actions during others turns. * Explorer cards. Not so good: * Text on cards too small to get an overview of new ships. * Bidding at 2 players is not satisfying.

This is a tough one to rate. I think you need a group willing to play this kind of game. - Action selection mechanism as in Puerto Rico (which i dont own) but with bidding on the action while the last player gets excluded to take the action and gets a consolation prize. The bidding itself is pretty cutthroat in my opinion (if you barely miss to take an action 2-3 times in a row due to a single coin you bid too less, you are pretty much screwed cause you probably wont catch up the missing actions if the other players dont do major mistakes). So it is possible to maneuver you in a bad situation early. - General this is a rather low scoring game, so in the end every point counts. - You can build small combos with the ships purchased and their effects. The text text on the ships and cards for their effects is ridiciously small which is really a design flaw as it pretty much hinders the game flow (you constantly have to pick up cards, check effects, and remember it because the effects are cruicial in this game). - There is also resource collection and management in this game (they have to be stored on your spaceships) which i really love but beware its a little fiddly too This game is for you if you like light engine building/card combination effects, resource management, action selection with a cutthroat bidding system

[b}Status: Comment based on one play[/b] Yeay a game from TMG. Loving the quality of the components. Space themed games have always been my favourite so I got excited when my friend pulled out a copy of this game. Honestly I've never heard of Exodus Fleet before! It's a little too long for my taste. A game of four players with three new players took us a little more than 90 mins! It's a game of you trying to mine resources from planets, use the resources to buy new ships that have cargo space and seats for you to transports tribe. It's a bit of Puerto Rico where the Admiral selects one of the available action and everyone bids for the selected action. Except that the auction only goes once and you are actually bidding for the placings of the action e.g. you may bid slightly lower than the previous bidder to be able to perform a slighter less better of the selected action. The explorer cards, they can be a bit swingy i.e. some give really great stuff while some just meh. There are so many planet cards in the game but we only mine like 5 of them in our game, so I'm not sure if we played it correctly. I find that it's a bit too long because of the constant reading and referring of the special abilities of the ships available for you to build.
