Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

For 1 to 4 players, it's all about resource management, efficient action sequencing, and the thrill of discovering card synergies that lead to victory points. With three intense rounds, the competition heats up as you strategically maneuver through the game. And let's not forget the visuals! The artwork by Martin Mottet is captivating, with standout pieces like the Leitwolf stealing the spotlight. No wonder Evenfall is rocking the BGG hotlist – it's a game that combines strategy and style flawlessly. One of Evenfall's standout features is the card-driven mechanics that take strategic interaction to the next level. You can activate your opponents' cards through clever card effects, creating a dynamic and engaging gameplay where you're constantly plotting your moves and assessing possibilities. The interaction keeps the pace swift, so there's minimal downtime and maximum excitement. This game is a true brain teaser! With resource management, card synergy discovery, and engine-building at its core, you're always pondering your next move. Huge shoutout to Nanox Games for personally introducing me to the game – much appreciated! Our nail-bitingly close game ending left us on the edge of our seats, and I'm eager to dive into Evenfall's captivating strategy and interaction again and again! Evenfall deserves a prime spot on your radar. Don't miss out on this year's Essen 2023 highlight!

Only one play - and I find it takes a few plays of a card game to see all the potential or not -- but it left a very good impression. We all went different ways in scoring, and it was fun to find and follow my own path. My friend who was 29 points down when we went into final scoring came out 1 point behind me; an epic finish. And it certainly doesn't hurt that the artwork is excellent. I have no idea how well this will hold up to repeated plays; I've only tried it once. But I'd like to try it again.

A gorgeous card game. Reminds me a lot of Imperial Settlers, but more streamlined, quicker and more fun.
