Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.
Storytelling

Très très bon, intrigante natation et DA à tomber!! Seul bémol au tableau les règles… parfois c’est un peu galère à comprendre…

Played two dreams and I can't wait to continue the campaign. Very original theme. Mechanics seem complex at first but the tutorial dream allows for a quick catch up.

Mechanically it's what 7th Continent strived to be, but Etherfields executed it way better. Interesting mechanics, narrative choices and the world is revealed one tile at the time. Etherfields has more variation, very interesting setting and beautiful minis. There is a great variation between the characters. Not only do they have different abilities but the cards that they can play are tailored toward those abilities. The only thing I don't really like is that there are some choices that are just plain bad. If you fail an adventure, you can just make sure to choose differently which will make it way easier, so the replayability suffers. However, there are enough adventures in the box, that you can play for days without any repetition so it's not a problem.
