Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.
Storytelling
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

I have already played more hours of solo of this game than any other game. I think about my next dream goal all day at work. It has been a very long time since a game has drawn me in this much. I am looking forward to be able to rotate my friends into it on the weekend then continuing solo. What an incredible design.

30+ hours in, having read every review and comment on the game (it seems), I have to say it is a pretty good game. Having this much time invested into the game, playing it for about a month, I still am going back to it day after day. It has its flaws, however. As mentioned by many, the board is useless. It is poorly designed and only serves as a barrier between the cards and my gaming table. I just rotate the cards so they face me, and it is easy to piece together the map without even using the board so I am using the board as a big playmat. Also, the Slumbers can get very repetitive. The Dreams are the draw of the game, and as you get further into the game, the Slumber Deck gets bigger meaning that you have a lot of repetitive and annoying things to get through before getting back to the Dreams. But other than that, I find the Dreams intriguing, challenging, interesting, creative and most of all, fun to play. Not every game is perfect, in fact, none are. But for what this game delivers, it is every bit worth the money and I am very glad that I backed it on Kickstarter. I find it a better game than Awaken Realm's other massive Kickstarter, Tainted Grail.
