Fabulous (deluxe) production, the components and their storage have been thought out really well. Great table presence with very pretty pieces. Easy to play if slightly tricky to initially get your head round the play mechanisms. Small amount of "take that" was not enough to put any of us off, despite our usually avoiding games that involve evenly mildly spiteful actions. Our only detractor was the sometimes lengthy downtime - if you are out of actions and pass you can wait a very long time while the others may have multiple more actions, some of which immediately grant them more actions. Add a reasonable amount of AP for each action and you can leave and watch a medium length cartoon before the round ends and you get to play again. It's the downtime that prevents me from wanting to play this too often but I'd be happy to play again from time to time.

I like this one a lot! The mechanisms are relatively simple but they lead to a very complex decision space. Surprisingly, there's a lot going on. I feel like the exploits improve on the base game. They push-pull on the original design in different ways, making certain actions/spaces more enticing and making other actions potentially more flexible. The deluxe edition (2018) really helps with some of the management since the player boards are recessed. One notable dislike - I feel like the final round is very anticlimactic. We got there and we were scrounging for things to do, eeking out every point. The end did not match the build up at all. I could see this game being 6 rounds instead of 7 with very minimal tradeoffs.

2020-04: A really clever area control game with a historical theme that doesn't shy away from difficult subjects. I was actually very taken with the game, but realized that it clearly had to be played with 3 or more people. Now just waiting for the right group.
