Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Takes a quick, streamlined game and makes it really not fun. The simultaneous drafting thing is awful. I also hated the new double-sized board and the crystal thing. I'm not sure if that or drafting is the worst part of the expansion. The new leader cards are not exciting. Same with the leader cubes. I think I remember liking the new banner cards well enough, but they don't actually add anything. Certainly nothing to justify the increased game length. Overall this expansion is a big, big miss for me. Fortunately, the game didn't need one in the first place. Minus 150 points for not marking expansion cards or including a manifest. I shouldn't have had to dig around on BGG to figure out the last few cards that weren't immediately obvious. Not appreciated. Glad that my game is back to its wonderful original state sans expansion, though.

Love the extra leaders and the new cards add some interesting twists to the base game. Overall, there's just a lot more compelling land to fight over with the addition of the big Lost Lands board, extra tokens, and some intersting ways to back door your opponents through clever use of portals, the "open sea" variant, and the like. I still prefer the market drafting turn structure, as opposed to the new simultaneous card drafting rules.

This adds a bunch of other play modules to the base game. Most of the modules are really good and changes up the game just a little to add some other things to consider.
