This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

rules took some learning and understanding, as for every rule it feels like there is an exception. Still a solid game with lots to enjoy.

The default game of a friend of mine for a board game night. Played it many times and if you get the people (5 or 6) together and everyone has played a couple of times and knows what is going on, then this is one of the best (advanced) board game experiences you can have. But be prepared that it's going to be a long night and it is very rules heavy so you need at least one who knows the manual by heart and oversees the game. Would not recommend more then one or two new (inexperienced) players in the round, else it can be very tiresome.

Holy cow, what a great game. Players navigate incredible chaos and try to leverage their highly asymetric powers to capitalize on shifting windows of opportunity. The game looks for players to provide balance, so if you aren't willing to talk to the table you aren't going to like this one bit. There's a very fun/interesting guessing game battle mechanic and a super-interesting fluctuating turn order. Underlying all this is an incredibly tight economy that makes every decision/risk nearly game-breaking. Everything about this version is an improvement over Rex: the box is smaller, it's cheaper, the theme/art is more appealing, the rules are tighter, and the game is shorter and somehow more epic. The only criticisms I have are: the board is beautiful but could use some special graphical designations for the imperial basin/shield wall/fremen start zone; the rulebook is not well written. These are easily corrected with a sharpie and a few player aid printouts. Also, the basic rules should be thrown in the trash; the advanced rules are like 5% more complicated to understand and easily double the fun. You aren't playing this game if you aren't interested in learning rules anyway.
