Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

I have played 6 scenarios (half way through the campaign) with my wife and 10 year old son. We are enjoying the game so far. We like the main mechanisms of customizing/spending dice and laying tiles into a map. It has enough challenge for the adults while still being playable by our 10 year old. We also enjoy the story and the clashes. The first two scenarios added a ton of rules and stickers, which caused them to drag a bit, but things smoothed out in scenarios 3-6 as just the right amount of content was added. We have not had any trouble with the stickers, only one so far didn't want to stick. I will update my review once we finish the campaign.

The stickers ruined the experience. Taking each one out was a problem and some ripped. After 10 minutes of trying to do this, I realized I am a grown man playing with stickers and decided to sell this game.

Played all 12 base game scenarios. The game is hardly interesting enough to keep on going to see where the mediocre story and legacy changes take you. The gameplay is simply very bland, and we discussed a lot about stopping playing all together, only scenario 10 gave a little exciting change. Do not recommend
