Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

The core mechanic is fun but cards seem to be lacking in variety of effects and gameplay is a little disappointingly shallow. Strong central mechanic saves it though.

In Distilled, each player distills their own spirits to sell for economic and prestigious gain. Players take on characters (e.g. pirate) and can distill their specialty spirit (e.g. dark rum) as well as other basic liquors, such as moonshine, vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. Players can improve their equipment for bonuses and sell their spirits in different bottles for more money or prestige or both. The theme and game are quite good here and this feels like a Kickstarter that was given more love in almost every way than so many other Kickstarters. Most importantly, the game itself is well put together and there is good thematic integration with game play and even the rules. The components are also very nice.

Love the theme, great component quality. But the gameplay feels very repetitive and boring. Not much strategic option, you basically do the same every game. Little variation through cards and recipes. And when it's getting exciting, the game is over. Sold.
