Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Excellent economic game that's very tight in terms of its overall design, as well as being phenomenally thematic in the way distilling works each round.

This is a fantastic production, with great art and integration of theme and is an obvious labor of love by the designers, so I almost feel bad scoring it this low - but the game is as shallow as a kiddie pool. There is almost no player interaction, and even worse almost no tension in the design or decision space. All of the tension comes when each player is randomly shuffling and drawing during the distilling phase - and there is almost no player agency here. I expect most veteran gamers will see everything there is to see here in just 2-3 plays - sure there is setup variation with different personality cards and end game goals, but the basic play of the game doesn't change and the possible strategies are extremely narrow. This is a trend that I have been seeing with far too many Kickstarters and newer publishers lately - the same issue is there in Endless Winter (perhaps even worse). If the game and setup/teardown takes 2+ hours, I NEED to have significant player interaction or I may as well just play solo.

Played at Tokencon 24 and loved it! Great production, fun mechanics, and not hard to learn. Excellent written instructions.
