Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Had a great time with this one the first time out. Distiller Sousa, I think, is very new-player friendly: she earns an extra dollar when selling spirits that have not been aged and a monopoly on Sugar Cane Juice. Vodka, Moonshine, Cachaca (sic), and her own signature spirit are easy to make out of the gate. (D Flight, A side, if we did it right.) Then she has plenty of money to move on to make similar spirits that are not aged (Gin, for example) and it's not much more difficult for her distillery to make rum—just the time needed. It helped, too, that for my first game she had 'Juvenile' as a goal and bought Stainless Steel Barrel from the initial draft.

Love the theme, great component quality. But the gameplay feels very repetitive and boring. Not much strategic option, you basically do the same every game. Little variation through cards and recipes. And when it's getting exciting, the game is over. Sold.

Played just a quick demo of this at Essen ‘23, and I was definitely let down. The theme is unusual and enticing, but I didn’t like the luck involved in brewing the alcoholic beverages: you have cards for ingredients and shuffle them together with alcohol cards (to simulate fermentation, and this is cool!), then you remove two random cards from the mixture… If key ingredients are removed, the beverage is spoiled! So, to avoid any risk, you must spend more resources to get at least the minimum number of key ingredients plus two… But a lucky opponent may have great beverages without investing as much as you! The game is lighter, so a bit of luck could be tolerable… but is too long for having this much randomness.
